The Auld Brig o' Doon was made famous by Robert Burns in his long poem 'Tam o' Shanter, but it is of considerable interest in its own right as a surviving single-arched mediaeval bridge.

This view shows the bridge from the south west. It is constructed largely of sandstone ashlar, and has a single high segmental arch, which is narrower than its abutments in a manner characteristic of early masonry bridges.

The bridge was repaired in 1832, and again in 1979-80, when a large number of face stones were replaced. Regardless of how much original fabric remains, this is a noble as well as famous structure.
